Are you lost, stuck, or unhappy in your food-focused career?
You're thinking of starting a food business, but you're not sure where to start.
You have a passion for food, but you're struggling to define your goals.
You're not sure how to turn your food-studies/culinary/hospitality degree into a job.
You’re a career changer who needs help identifying your transferrable skills.
You're unhappy in your food career, and you aren't sure what's not working.
You’re overwhelmed by choices and need help navigating the options and mapping out a plan.
You, my fine, food-loving friend, are in very good company.
Without a plan, following your passion for food can be confusing, frustrating, and disheartening.
I know. I’ve been there.
I followed my life-long love for food and “succeeded.” I graduated from culinary school, cooked at Chez Panisse, wrote for Saveur and Food & Wine, and got two food-focused master’s degrees. But for all my accomplishments, I wasn’t happy.
I'll never forget spending my days off from Chez Panisse lying on my living room floor.
After years of trying to find the right fit, I was felt like a failure. It took me a long time, a ton of soul searching, and more than a few wrong turns to chart the path that worked for me.
That’s why I’m offering you the kind of guidance I wish I’d had when I was starting out.
Let’s find the work that works for you.
Here’s how I help:
Passion, talent, and luck are the least important (and least reliable) components of meaningful work.
My job is to equip you with the key ingredients.
I’ll guide you through a process of inquiry, reflection, self-discovery, that helps you gain more access to your motivation, intuition, and confidence.
I do this by asking you clarifying questions, listening, and reflecting back to you what I hear about who are, how you want to contribute, what you have to offer, and why it matters.
I’ll help uncover your values, leverage your strengths, make use of your skills and experience, and set goals that inspire and motivate you.
Together, we’ll make a plan for you to move forward, and I'll support you and hold you accountable as you take strategic action toward your goals.
I’ll equip you with tools, tips, assignments, and resources that will empower you to find the focus, direction, and momentum you need to chart a path to work you love.
Finally, I’ll teach you to communicate your value online, in person, and everywhere in between so you can find the opportunities that are right for you.
repeating old mistakes
career commitment phobia
making decisions for the wrong reasons
a vision for a fulfilling career
the belief that what you want is attainable
awareness of what you bring to the table
focus, direction, and momentum
the confidence and courage to go after them
strategies you’ll use now and in the future
Our work is a partnership.
My approach is collaborative and holistic, grounded in my training as a co-active coach, my own career journey, and my years of experience in food. I believe that you’re the expert on you, and I’m not here to “fix you”. Our work is meant to give you more access to your motivation, intuition, strengths, and confidence. You’ll set the agenda, and we’ll work together to achieve it
“THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP! I just got a staff editor job! The salary is $10,000 more than what I asked for, plus all the health-401k benefits! I’ve been trying to get something like this for 5+ years. You should know that your work is effective and changing my life for the better!”
AMY SOWDER, FOOD AND FITNESS WRITER/EDITOR
These core values are at the foundation of our work:
Life and work aren't separate. It's only by being unapologetically ourselves in both, that we can be successful, fulfilled, and share with the world the gifts that are uniquely ours to give. That means honoring what matters to us, and showing up fully as the truest version of ourselves.
I'm not a fan of "fake it till you make it," or asking you to do things that feel in conflict with your values. I’ll help you craft your career in ways that don't feel like one-size-fits-all solutions. You’re a person, not pigeon, and I’m not interested in pigeon-holing you.
Good communication between the two of us is key to your success. I'm here for you, and I ALWAYS want to hear about what you need, how you like to work, what you might be concerned about, what you're satisfied with, and what we can improve.
Creativity and innovation are my jam. My work is nothing if not fundamentally rooted in the idea that there is usually more than one good way to do things, that possibility is all around us, and that, no matter how outlandish your ideas, “if you build it, they will come.”
It's essential for me to get to know the whole you, to hear your point of view, and to understand how your unique story shapes your goals and perspectives. Our forging a genuine connection is integral to your success—for this reason, I don’t think I offer the kind of help that’s best for everyone.
Working with talented, ambitious clients inspires me. I recognize potential when I see it, and I love helping you be the best that you can be. I hold high standards for myself and my clients. I expect you to commit to our process and bring your best to the table so I can help you leverage your strengths and encourage you to shine. Rest assured, though: I won’t let you be so much of a perfectionist that you don’t take action toward your goals.
All of us are afraid of failing, of looking silly, of being rejected, of being judged, of offending people, and of countless other things! The only way to truly find fulfillment in your work, however, is by showing up fully and with courage, even when that’s not always the easiest thing for us to do.
While the internet and social media are valuable tools in today’s world they are best used to help you deepen your connections with real people, in the flesh. If you ask me, good, old-fashioned face-to-face contact is the most important and impactful way to widen your network, create opportunities, and connect with anyone in any context. I’ll encourage you to make in person connections whenever possible.

ELIZABETH SCALIA, CULINARY STUDENT AND CAREER CHANGER
How do we meet?
Sessions consist of 60 minute sessions on Skype or in person in Brooklyn NY.
The moment you book your sessions, you’ll get a welcome workbook full of questions and quizzes to get you started reflecting about your business before we begin our work.
Consistency and commitment lead to results (which is what we’re both here for). But you’d be shocked to see how many people get in their own way. For this reason, I require a one-month, weekly commitment from all my clients so you can give yourself a fighting chance to make the change you’re looking for.
I like to get to know you, help you, and then continue to support you over the long haul. Nothing makes me happier than to hear from former clients seeking a bit of help at a new point on their path. After we finish our work together, you’ll have access to follow-up services and alumni specials that I only offer to former clients.
You tell me all about your goals and challenges. If I think we’ll work together well, I’ll invite you to schedule an initial call. On our call, I’ll listen and explain how I can help. There’s no fee, and no obligation to commit.
Get to work.
If we decide to work together, I’ll send you a welcome workbook, so that when our first session rolls around, we’ll get right to work.
Start cooking with gas.
When we’re done, you’ll be ready to take on your career with clarity and confidence.
